SPECIALIZED PUMP COMPANY INC.

Duplex Variable Speed Dual Source Water Booster System
Water Booster Systems

Listed is a brief description of our Domestic line of Booster Pumps System.  We offer  a number of different types of pumps: Close Coupled End Suction, SS Vertical Multi-Stage, Jet and a selection of Manufacturers such as Gould's and Grundfos.  If you have  a specific preference to the brand we can accommodate you.  Send us your specifications and we can return a completed quote to you usually in 48 hours. Whether its a residential home with low water pressure or a high rise condominium  we can provide the correct system for your needs.

System Choices:

  • Constant Speed: System Utilizes Pressure Reducing Valves on each Pump to maintain constant pressure

  • Variable Speed: System Utilizes Variable Speed Drives on each  Pump to maintain constant pressure. No PR Valves

  • Hybrid Systems: Combination of the two systems. Utilizes variable speed drive on the lead pump while the lag pumps are  constant speed with pressure reducing valves. Very efficient system

  • Hybrid 142: Duplex system in which a variable speed drive is utilized on the lead pump while the lag pump is a constant speed slave. This system can be run in either the variable or constant speed mode with  turn of a switch.

  • Dual Source: A system which is normally run from the city water supply but utilizes a cistern (reservoir) as a back up source. This system incorporates a separate pump for the back up supply.  If the city pressure goes below a specific PSI, the system automatically switches to the back up water source be it a cistern or a reservoir.  Pressure is maintained, once city pressure returns to an acceptable level the system automatically switches back to city water.  While on the back up supply, all  features of the main system are still functional.  This feature can be incorporated on any of our systems.  Never let the city leave your tenants high and dry again.

Pump Sequencing

Pump sequencing in all Systems is determined by number of pumps in a system and by the output of those pumps. The PLC is programmed  to determine which pumps are cycled on at a particular time to meet the buildings requirements in the most efficient manner possible. Depending on the System configuration the program can use up to seven lag functions to provide a constant water pressure to the building. The PLC constantly monitors the flow rate or Pressure; it will then determine which pump or combination of pumps will be activated to meet the demand. The PLC takes in a number of factors to determine the most economical and efficient to use the pumps to meet the demand.

Pump Types

  • Closed Coupled End Suction: Stainless Steel, Cast Iron and Bronze construction in both self priming and standard configurations. Close coupled, frame mounted. Flows up to 5,000 GPM and 400 feet TDH. Advantages compact design and initial cost.

  • Vertical S.S. Multistage: Vertical configuration high pressure pumps for water boost applications. Stainless steel or cast iron construction with variable suction and discharge orientation. Flows to 350 GPM and 800 feet TDH. Designed to handle a wide range of filtration, pressure boost, wash system and boiler feed applications. Advantages Efficiency, small foot print, operating cost,

  • Motor Type:  O.D.P.  vs. T.E.F.C

(Vertical by Design not by Mounting Position - Our Vertical Pump systems use True Vertical Multistage Pumps and not an end suction pump standing on its end)

Tips for Going Green:  Save Energy, Save Water and Save Money

  • Choose T.E.F.C. High Efficiency Motors over O.D.P. Motors

  • Replace your Old Motors instead of rewinding them. Rewind or repair motors when they fail, a practice that is more common with motors greater than 50 horsepower. Even though rewinding a motor costs less than buying a new one, for most applications with high annual hours of operation it is cost-effective to replace a standard motor with a new, Premium energy-efficient one. The Motor Decisions Matter provides guidance on motor replacement and rewinding (see “For More Information”). Once a Premium energy-efficient motor hasbeen purchased, even rewinding or repairing it at a quality service center may degrade its efficiency slightly (0.5% to 1.0% per rewind is the common rule of thumb). Though it is generally not cost-effective to rewind ODP motors, rewinding is often a cost-effectiveoption for large TEFC motors. The Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA)provides a list of motor service centers (see “For More Information”).

  • Good - Choose The No Flow Option,  This Option monitors the system pressure, when the pressure has been stable for a specific time at a set pressure, the pump will turn off until the system pressure drops and the pump is required again.
  • Better: Install a Variable Frequency  Drive on your Lead Pump. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), the most common type of adjustable speed drives, can be used with motors to help lower energy costs. VFDs are electronic systems used to control motor speed by changing the frequency and voltage supplied to the motor. VFDs can result in substantial energy savings, especially for varying loads. Small reductions in speed also can yield substantial energy savings. For example, a 20% reduction in fan speed can reduce energy consumption by nearly 50%. Pump, fan, and compressor systems with variable loads should be considered for retrofit with VFDs.
  • Best: Install a Variable Frequency  Drive on each pump in your system. . This will result in substantial energy savings.  An additional benefit is this type of system uses a simple check valves and does not use Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV's). This will reduce your yearly maintenance.  Save Water-Pumps using VFD's do not need the water wasting Temperature Purge Solenoids.

Low City Pressure

  •  If City Pressure falls below a minimum safe pressure the system shuts off the pumps  and sounds an alarm.  On systems with PLC controls , the plc will monitor the pressure and if the pressure returns to a safe  state within two minutes the system will automatically restart if it returns to a safe state after  two minutes a manual restart is require

Safe Fail Mode
  •  In the advent of a part failure the plc will react and shut down the system in a safe mode.  For example: If the transducer would fail, instead of the system running all pumps with a no flow condition, the plc would detect the transducer failure and shut the system down, enabling the operation of the pumps in the manual mode.
  • Multiple Pump Control Systems  utilize a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Since the PLC uses a transducer  to continuously monitors the building’s water pressure .   This feature allows us to incorporate features previously listed as options as standard features
